Facts About the Elayne Jones

In 1945, she won a scholarship to Julliard

Elayne won positions in the New York City Opera and New York City Ballet Orchestras

When the New York City opera tour arrived in St. Louis, Missouri, she had to sleep at the local YWCA because of racism

In 1964 she helped establish the "Symphony of the New World," for musicians of color

She won a position in the San Franscisco Symphony where she played for 30 years.

She was denied tenure because of racism.

She is currently 92 years old and lives in California.
